Neymar Surpasses Pelé: Celebrating Brazil’s Top Scorer with an Award

The Brazilian soccer player Neymar has football legend Skin replaced as the national team’s top scorer. The president of the Brazilian Football Federation presented him with an award.

“I’m not better than Pelé because I surpassed him,” said Neymar. “I always wanted to write my name in the history of Brazilian football and the national team. Today I did it.”

Neymar celebrates in the style of Pelé

The decisive goal, with which Neymar overtook three-time world champion Pelé’s career tally, came in the 61st minute in a World Cup qualifier against Bolivia.

It was Brazil’s fourth goal in a 5-1 win. Neymar celebrated by punching the air, as Pelé usually did. The last goal of the game was also scored by Neymar in stoppage time.

It was Neymar’s 78th goal for the Seleçao, one more than King Pelé’s record! Faced with such a feat, the number 10 celebrated in the same way as his glorious older “brother” by pumping his fists into the sky.

With tears in his eyes, he was hugged by all his teammates before hugging Fernando Diniz.
