The German Nürburgring racetrack has long been a place where automakers not only compete in lap speed, but also fine-tune future civilian models. Often there you can find prototypes that are tested before entering the world markets, and this time the spy caught the next generation Kia Sportage crossover. Previously camouflaged cars have been spotted on Korean streets, and now Sportage has been brought to Europe for a new series of tests.
The crossover is gradually getting rid of camouflage (covers and fake linings have disappeared from the body), but the camouflage film still hides the details of the exterior. Apparently, the Sportage will be the first Kia model to try on the new corporate design: due to the atypical design of the front end of the Korean brand for cars, it almost does not betray belonging to the current family of Kia crossovers. In addition, the company decided to abandon the previous form of side glazing, which was one of the distinguishing features of the models of the last two generations. At the same time, oddly enough, the general architecture of the stern has practically not changed, except that additional sections of the rear lights have disappeared from the bumper.
As before, Kia Sportage will share a platform with a crossover Hyundai Tucson, who also recently changed a generation. The range of engines is likely to be borrowed from a sister model, and a rechargeable hybrid will also appear in the lineup. According to preliminary information, the official debut of the fifth generation crossover will take place in April – first of all, the new Sportage will be sold in the Korean market.
