Blue Jackets striker cole sillinger (18 years, 301 days) scored the first hat trick of his NHL career and became the second-youngest player in franchise history to score three goals in a game, behind Nikita Filatov (18 years, 230 days, January 10, 2009).

Sillinger, Filatov and the current Blue Jackets forward Patrick Wool represent five of the last six cases where an NHL player scored a hat trick before the age of 19.

Sillinger’s father, Mikehad a hat trick during his 17-year NHL career. The elder Sillinger scored three goals for St. Louis in their 4-1 win over San Jose in Game 3 of the 2004 Conference Quarterfinals.
