News – NHL: January’s stars of the month -Ovechkin 1st

Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin, center of the Edmonton Oilers Leon Draisaitl and the Tampa Bay Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy have been named the NHL’s three stars for the month of January.

Without surprise, Alex Ovechkin (34) is the 1st star in January 2020 for having achieved 13 goals (best performance in the NHL) and took 5th place for points, with 15, in January. Even better, he has surpassed many of the Hall of Fame’s list of top scorers in NHL history and is close to the 700 NHL goal plateau. He is on his way to becoming the 2nd fastest player in history to reach these famous 700 goals, just behind Gretzky. He finally obtained two successive hat tricks during this period.

The 2nd star, the German Leon Draisaitl (24) averaged 1.89 points per game in January. He has 17 points (six goals, 11 assists) in nine games and is the best score of the past month.

The 3rd star, Andrei Vasilevskiy was the NHL’s top goaltender in January in wins (nine), average goals allowed (1.58) and percentage of saves (tied at .948).
