News from the music school

The Cajarc music school is suffering from the Covid-19 pandemic, its operation is affected. The director, Christine Gentou, agreed to talk about it.

How did the 2020-2021 school year go?

After the third quarter of 2019-2020, which we had managed by video as much as possible, we were worried about the 2020-2021 school year. Good surprise, the majority of our students have re-registered as well as new ones. The numbers are stable around 150 adults and children. For the second confinement in November, we were able to set up a remote pedagogy that we had already experienced during the first confinement. This methodology allows a follow-up but not necessarily a usual progression because of the difficulties and inequalities of connection.

What did you do at the start of the January school year?

We were delighted to have been able to take students under 18 in face-to-face. We regret that adult lessons and singing lessons are still not authorized, as for the groups which have been deprived of rehearsal since October 15th. To respect the curfew, we reorganized the lessons so that our students returned home at 6 p.m. We thank the families for their patience and understanding and the teachers for their adaptability efforts.

What do you hope for the next few months?

A return to normal! And the great hope of this school year is the entry into the premises of the new music school, a magnificent working tool, which will open up new perspectives. We can’t wait to leave our current, dilapidated, cramped, upstairs premises. The team continues to work on future projects… There are many of them and with different partners. They will be able to be carried out in the new structure which is much more suitable for this.

What do you plan for the end of the school year?

At the end of June, we hope to organize our end-of-year picnic in our new premises surrounded by all the friends from the school!
