Going towards a new meeting

On Monday night, it was announced that a new meeting was being held between Putin and US President Joe Biden. No date has been set for when the meeting will take place, but it has been stated that the meeting will deal with the Ukraine conflict, and that the meeting participants will discuss security and strategic stability in Europe.

Following the news of the forthcoming meeting, France has stated that it now has diplomatic hopes for a solution, while Ukraine has stated that it hopes that a meeting between Putin and Biden can lead to a Russian withdrawal.

Spokesman Peskov, on the other hand, has stated that it is premature to talk about concrete plans related to the expected summit.

Uncertain intentions

In recent months, Russia has been building significant forces on the border with Ukraine. Military exercises have also been carried out, including in Belarus. The United States and Norway’s foreign minister, Anniken Huitfeldt (Labor Party), has claimed that an invasion of Ukraine may be imminent.

Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre (Labor Party) recently told Dagbladet that he feels that Putin wants to create uncertainty about his intentions. Støre also said that Norway emphasizes that there should be substance and direction in the dialogue between NATO and Russia.
