About 7,000 people, including about 6,000 passengers, are stranded on a cruise ship at the port of Civitavecchia, near Rome, due to two suspected cases of the new coronavirus, we learned today from health authorities and cruise line Costa. “We were alerted early in the morning by the Ministry of Health and sent three doctors on board to take samples”, a spokesperson for the Civitavecchia ASL (health center) told AFP.
Contacted by us, Costa confirms that a passenger of 54 years of Chinese nationality was placed in solitary confinement with her traveling companion. At 10:30 am this morning, analyzes were still underway to try to determine whether it was indeed the new coronavirus.
The cruise line also confirmed that it was the Costa Smeralda, as revealed by the Corriere della Sera. The Costa Smeralda makes a stopover every Sunday in Marseille.
