News 24 | Royal Decree: Saudi nationality is granted to children of female citizens by order of the Prime Minister

The Guardian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, issued a royal decree approving the modification of Article 8 of the Saudi nationality system, in the aspect relating to the authority to approve the granting of nationality.

The amendment envisaged that citizenship was granted with a provision of the President of the Council of Ministers on a proposal from the Minister of the Interior, or by replacing the phrase “with a provision from the President of the Council of Ministers” on a proposal from the Minister of the Interior instead of the phrase “with provision of the Minister of the Interior” in art.

Interestingly, Article 8 of the Saudi citizenship system states that Saudi nationality can be granted by decision of the Minister of Interior to a person born in the Kingdom to a foreign father and a Saudi mother, if the conditions are met.

The conditions stipulate that he has permanent resident status in the Kingdom upon coming of age, is of good conduct and behavior and fluent in the Arabic language, and that the application must be made within the year following coming of age.
