“Newcastle United Secures Champions League Spot with Draw Against Leicester City”

Newcastle United will play in the Champions League next season. A point against Leicester was enough to finish at least fourth and thus force participation in the billion dollar ball. It is the first time in twenty years that the club participates in the Champions League.

Leicester City still has a small chance to maintain itself in the Premier League. With art and flying, the team scored a point in Newcastle: 0-0.

Newcastle celebrated a modest party, yet there was also disappointment with Sven Botman’s team, because third place would have been almost certain with a win. Now Manchester United can still take over from Erik ten Hag and Wout Weghorst.

Newcastle struggled to get through Leicester’s defence. Only after 22 minutes was there a first shot on target. Elliot Anderson shot from just outside the box, but his swipe was an easy prey for goalkeeper Daniel Iversen.

There were no opportunities in the early stages. Cards do. Bruno Guimarães and Alexander Isak were booked for hard fouls.

After 40 minutes, Leicester almost succumbed to the pressure. After Callum Wilson’s header, there was an old-fashioned scrimmage where the ball could be cleared via the post and Wilfred Ndidi.

Three minutes later, the post saved Leicester again. Miguel Almirón completed the ball on the aluminum and Alexander Isak shot the ball wildly over the rebound. The team that became champion in 2016, for example, took the break 0-0.

The picture remained the same in the second half. Newcastle tried to play through the blue wall, Leicester barely got the ball.

Twenty minutes before the end it was again the post that got in the way of Newcastle, Bruno Guimarães still headed on the post about twenty centimeters before the goal. A few minutes later, Iversen had to make the save on a fly from Sean Longstaff.

Only chance

In extra time, Leicester had their first chance of the game, but keeper Nick Pope had a good reflex on Timothy Castagne’s shot. The game thus remained goalless.

Leicester City will play against West Ham United on the last matchday. The club needs to win that game to stay in the Premier League and hope Everton make a mistake. The difference with Everton is two points in favor of the Liverpool club.
