New York Yankees’ Catcher Dilemma: José Treviño’s Surgery and Trade Market Options

One more was added to the list of difficulties that the New York Yankees have faced this MLB season, with the announcement of José Treviño’s surgery that leaves him out for the rest of the tournament.

While Kyle Higashioka has done a good job this season and Ben Rortvedt was called up to the big leagues, replacing the 2022 Gold Glove (and Platinum) winner won’t be easy.

Treviño’s injury forces New York to go to the trade market for a catcher, and if Salvador Perez is ultimately impossible to acquire, they will have other options to consider.

Going for Caratini makes sense for the Yankees, who don’t need to commit long-term to a catcher but instead go for someone to help them finish out the season. The 29-year-old Puerto Rican will be a free agent at the end of the season, in which his salary is just $2.8 million. The Milwaukee Brewers, although they are fighting to qualify for the playoffs, could hand him over without major problems since they have had him as a reserve for William Contreras. In 38 games, Caratini has hit an average of .240 with 5 home runs and 18 RBIs.
