New York will not be locked, but strict travel advice

Strict travel advice has been issued for residents of the US states of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. For a period of fourteen days, people in the so-called tri-state area waiving all non-essential travel, President Trump has decided in consultation with the CDC health authority.

The urgent appeal does not apply to people who work in crucial professions such as healthcare, the food industry, the financial sector or freight transport. New York is the epicenter of the corona outbreak in the United States. More than 52,000 people have tested positive. Of the more than 2,000 deaths in the US from corona, 700 have been recorded in New York.

In recent days, officials from other states, including Florida Governor DeSantis, have complained that many New Yorkers are leaving the city and moving elsewhere. In this way, they pose a danger to the populations of other states.

That prompted President Trump to announce in a tweet on Saturday night that he was considering quarantining New York and neighboring New Jersey and Connecticut. Residents would then no longer be allowed to go outside at all and therefore not be able to travel to other states.
