New York State reopens stadiums and performance venues to the public

While the Parisian festival, Solidays, has just announced a cancellation for the second year in a row, New York State is ready to reopen its theaters and stadiums.

But to attend shows or matches, spectators must present their negative PCR tests at the entrance less than 72 hours old. Once this first step has been validated, they will have to wear a mask and scrupulously respect the rules of physical distancing.

The Barclays Center, a room that can accommodate up to 17,700 spectators, says he is ready to “get the ball rolling”. And starting February 23, the Brooklyn Nets professional league NBA team will be able to welcome the public for its game against the Sacramento Kings. This will be the first time in 352 days that the Nets will play in front of their spectators. Brooklyn has played at the Barclays Center several times this season, but always behind closed doors.

Major events banned since March 12, 2020

New York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo banned all events on March 12, 2020 bringing together more than 500 people, to prevent the virus from spreading.
This decision to reopen the stadiums and performance halls to the public is well considered. It follows a first test allowing the Buffalo Bills club to accommodate 6,700 spectators for a final phase match, on January 9. All had to have previously tested negative to sit in the stadium that matters 71.600 places au total.

A real success, so much so that the formula was renewed the following week for another Bills playoff game. The governor and state health authorities deemed the experiment successful. Several other American states already allow large venues to accommodate audiences, notably in Florida, where the Super Bowl took place on Sunday, in front of 25,000 people.
