New York State declares state of emergency for monkeypox

On Friday, there were indeed 1,383 cases. According to Governor Kathy Hochul, this represents a quarter of the total number of contaminations in the United States. The state of emergency, which will last at least until August 28, allows more groups of people to be vaccinated against monkeypox. Pharmacists, midwives and emergency service workers can now be vaccinated. The recording of cases of the disease is also improved so that the health authorities can react more quickly.

On Thursday, New York said monkeypox posed an immediate danger to public health. The city of San Francisco, where 261 infections have been recorded, has already declared a state of emergency, a measure that New York is now following.

According to the federal health service CDC, more than 4,900 cases of monkeypox have now been reported in the United States.
