After two years of hiatus due to the pandemic, the New York show, preferred by car manufacturers for the presentation of novelties in the SUV segment, reopened its doors yesterday with the first of two days dedicated to the media. communication.
Although the New York hall has not yet recovered the activity that made it one of the three most important exhibitions in North America, from Friday to Sunday, April 24, the hall will be open to the general public.
And to highlight the importance of the exhibition, which in the past generated hundreds of millions of dollars for New York, Governor Kathy Hochul participated in the opening of the room held at the Javits Center in Manhattan.
This year, the New York International Auto Show includes the largest circuit for electric vehicles built inside an enclosure and in which visitors can test different models.
The president of the Alliance for Automotive Innovation, John Bozzella, pointed out that the United States is fully in the midst of transforming the sector and highlighted that the country’s consumer can already choose from more than 70 models of electrified vehicles.
“Around the world, manufacturers are planning to invest $515 billion in electrification of the sector by the end of this decade,” added Bozzella.
Both Jeep and Hyundai, Kia and Chrysler, the manufacturers that brought the most novelties to the event, reinforced their commitment to transforming their range of vehicles with internal combustion engines to electric models.
Jeep, the specialized SUV brand and now part of the Stellantis group, revealed the Grand Cherokee High Altitude 4xe, a new version of the hybrid model that features a 2-liter turbocharged gasoline engine along with two electric motors and a battery. of 400 volts.
Another brand of the Stellantis group, Chrysler, also took advantage of the show to reaffirm its desire to quickly transform itself into an exclusive manufacturer of electric vehicles.
The firm’s CEO, Chris Feuell, revealed the Graphite, a new version of its Airflow electric vehicle prototype. The unit is equipped with two 150 kW electric motors that offer all-wheel drive and a battery that offers 644 kilometers of range.
For their part, the South Korean brands Hyundai and Kia launched new versions of their largest SUVs, the Hyundai Palisade and the Kia Telluride.
But Kia also presented the second generation of the Niro model with three versions (hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electric) and a new exterior design.
In addition, the new Californian manufacturer Indi announced that the company’s first vehicle, the Indi One, can now be reserved.
