This Sunday panic broke out in the famous Times Squareafter three sewers registered an explosion that caused a part to be closed as a precaution.
Through social networks, some people have shared videos showing the strong explosions that led the crowd to run, fearing a possible attack.
The Fire Department of New York (FDNY) reported shortly after that it was three sewers that burst into flames in the surroundings of Times Square.
About 100 firefighters participated in the work and protected local homes and businesses. The area around the 43rd Street and Broadway was closed to the public.
Firefighters investigate for elevated levels of carbon monoxide.
“Firefighters are searching surrounding properties for elevated levels of carbon monoxide. Utility companies on their way,” the FDNY reported.
So far no injuries have been reported.
