Los New York Knicks beat the needy Cleveland Cavaliers 109-91 supported by a great performance by Julius Randle who added a double-double and Jalen Brunson who contributed 19 points.
Randle added 19 points and 10 rebounds for the Knicks, who outscored the Cavaliers 51-39 in the second half. While RJ Barrett scored 16 points, Immanuel Quickley also scored 18 points and Isaiah Hartenstein 13; the latter two contributing double figures from the bench, combining to shoot 52.4% (11 of 21) from the field.
So then, the Knicks recovered from Saturday’s loss to the Pelicans and went 2-2, while the Cavs have lost three in a row and are 1-3.
The New Yorker Donovan Mitchell scored 26 points in 29 minutesand Isaac Okoro and Georges Niang each had 11 points for the Cavaliers, who have lost three in a row and are 0-3 at home.
Mitchell, who is averaging 32.0 points and 4.7 assists, returned to the lineup after a 125-113 loss to the Pacers with right hamstring soreness on Saturday.
The injury-plagued Cavaliers were without guard Darius Garland (left hamstring strain) for the third straight game and have been without center Jarrett Allen (left ankle bone bruise) in uniform this season. Reserve Caris LeVert also did not play after injuring his left hamstring in Saturday’s game, nor did reserve guard Ty Jerome (sprained right ankle).
