New York imposes compulsory vaccination for the entire private sector

184,000 shops and companies affected by new regulation. Order goes further than US President Joe Biden’s nationwide vaccination requirement for companies with more than 100 employees from the beginning of January.

In New York, comprehensive vaccinations will apply to all employees in the private sector from the end of December. New York is launching “a preemptive attack” to stop the further spread of the corona virus “and the dangers it poses to all of us,” Mayor Bill de Blasio told MSNBC on Monday. The vaccination obligation applies from December 27th.

The vaccination requirement affects around 184,000 New York shops and companies. The order goes further than US President Joe Biden’s nationwide vaccination requirement for companies with more than 100 employees from the beginning of January. This was temporarily suspended by the courts. Vaccination requirements have a long history in the United States, but are usually enacted by cities or states.

De Blasio argued that the appearance of the omicron variant of the coronavirus, the cold winter weather and the upcoming public holidays were “additional challenges” in the fight against the pandemic. He was “very concerned,” he said, referring to the first confirmed omicron cases in at least 15 US states, including New York. The metropolis of millions was particularly hard hit by the pandemic last year with 34,000 deaths.

France closes discos

In the fight against the fifth corona wave rampant in France, the government has ordered the closure of discotheques. The measure should apply for four weeks from Friday, Prime Minister Jean Castex said at a press conference on Monday evening. According to the Ministry of Economic Affairs, 1,200 discos are affected. They should get support from the state.

Castex announced further protective measures, but they are far less stringent than at earlier points in the pandemic – despite a seven-day incidence in the country of over 400. “It is not the time for visitor caps, curfews or lockdown. That would be disproportionate”, said the Prime Minister.

According to the resolutions, the mask requirement is to be expanded at elementary schools. Companies are called upon to enable their employees to work from home. The French should refrain from gatherings where no mask is worn, Castex said. In addition, the government wants to promote booster vaccinations in the country. By the beginning of January, 15 million more people should be able to receive their booster vaccination. According to Castex, people over 65 should have priority and be able to pick up their spades in vaccination centers without an appointment. Even those who have not been vaccinated so far should be able to receive their first vaccination without an appointment.
