NEW YORK (dpa-AFX) – After the long weekend it was enough for some US indices on Tuesday with moderate gains for new records. Technology stocks were particularly in demand. The Nasdaq 100, which was shaped by these, rose 0.37 percent to 14,781.79 points. The broad S&P 500 also posted a record with a slightly positive start, but was most recently in the red with 4,341.06 points with 0.26 percent.
The standard values in what is probably the most famous US index, the Dow Jones Industrial, lagged behind from the start. After trading paused at the beginning of the week because of the subsequent “Independence Day”, the Wall Street price barometer now lost 0.58 percent to 34,585.66 points. The previous record has been in place for four weeks with the Dow.
The gap between rising technology and falling standard values widened in the first hour of trading, also due to fresh economic data. The sentiment in the service sector derived from the ISM index could not meet the forecasts. With this in mind, investors switched back from cyclical stocks to technology and growth./tih/jha/
