New York does not open the interior of the bars due to citizen misconduct

Such a hustle and bustle on the terraces of New York City bars. All because of the tropical weather.

There hasn’t been a day this week that a storm hasn’t hit. You have to see the rush of the customers and the careers of the waiters. The downpour falls and it starts again, to put everything in motion. The establishments promised them happy, freed from the pressure of the clouds, because they planned to open the interior of the premises this coming Monday.

Those illusions were blurred this Wednesday, after the governor of the state, Andrew Cuomo, and the mayor, Bill de Blasio, announced that this reopening has been postponed, despite the good numbers registered on the contagion. Compared to what was the national epicenter, in New York state there were 879 hospitalized patients and 11 deaths on June 30, while the positive tests in the city were only 2%.

Nothing to do with the tragedy of a few weeks ago. But the brakes have been put on the face of what is happening in other parts of the United States – Arizona, Texas or Florida have backtracked – and in the behavior of New Yorkers, among whom an excess of relaxation has been detected in certain groups, especially young people, who skip social distance and the use of a mask.

“Interior service is a growing problem,” stressed De Blasio. “The news we have around the country is getting worse and worse. This is not the time to go forward. The establishments will have to double their services abroad ”, he added.

However, Cuomo was very harsh on the behavior observed in bars and restaurants in many of the neighborhoods of the five districts of the metropolis.

“We have to anticipate future problems,” argued the governor, who stressed that the imposition of rules is not enough. “Citizen compliance is declining and local governments are not doing their job of enforcing that compliance,” remarked Cuomo, a poisoned dart with a double head: one for residents and one for the mayor and his ability with the stick of command.

The governor recalled that New York will quarantine those who come from 16 states, eight more than the initial ones. While acknowledging that some of his comments may have contributed to relaxation, Cuomo particularly blamed President Donald Trump “for his ability to deny the reality of the virus.”
