The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA, America’s fashion governing body) has announced that September New York Fashion Week will last only three days.

The spring-summer 2021 parade season will take place from September 14-16, and could be extended until September 17 if demand is sufficient. For the moment, this shortened calendar will not be renewed for the following editions.

Like the Digital Fashion Week organized by the British Fashion Council in June – and the online editions of the Haute Couture and men’s ready-to-wear seasons in Paris and Milan this month – the New York event will also take place on the Internet, in order to guarantee the health and safety of the public and participants in this context of health crisis.

In an interview with WWDMark Beckham, CFDA vice president of marketing and events, explains that this digital format makes it easy for “parades” to fit into a shorter schedule.

“We can hold the same number of presentations over three days, because we do not need to move between the shows,” he explains, before specifying that some designers could skip their turn this season, due to of the financial impact the pandemic has had on the fashion industry.

To date, Marc Jacobs and Michael Kors have both announced that they will not be on the September calendar; the latter is also preparing an event in October to present his Spring-Summer 2021 collection.

According to the specialist press, the CFDA plans to provide all brands taking part in the event with “digital resources” to unveil their collections and “maximize their visibility”.

“The CFDA remains respectful of everyone’s priorities during this period,” explains the organization on its website.

“Above all, protect the health and well-being of our teams and ourselves, then restore some form of stability to our commercial activities. With this in mind, the CFDA is currently reviewing its entire annual calendar, in particular the dates of the New York Fashion Week and the major milestones of the fashion market “.

The CFDA has yet to release an official schedule for its September event.
