NEW YORK (dpa-AFX) – In view of the well-progressing corona vaccination campaign and the largely stable infection rate, the metropolis of New York will gradually bring its tens of thousands of urban employees back to the office from May. “Those who are not already on the front lines but work in offices will start coming back from May 3rd,” Mayor Bill de Blasio said at a press conference on Tuesday. There are around 80,000 people.

“We’ll do it for sure, but we need our city workers in their offices where they can best help the other New Yorkers,” said de Blasio. “And it will also send a strong message about how this city is moving forward.”

New York had become the epicenter of the pandemic in the United States last spring. In the meantime, however, the infection rate has largely stabilized, and almost 30 percent of people have already received at least one first dose of vaccination./cah/DP/he
