Today, many people went to the site and did not find the usual envelope, and in the lower right corner a strange new icon appeared, which also changes. This is not a glitch or pop-up ad, this is a new update.
Let’s start by changing what was before. Now all your correspondence with users has moved to a common chat window, which opens by clicking on the special icon in the lower right corner. No more separate windows and no need to refresh the tab – everything happens on the page and is updated automatically, as in many familiar instant messengers. It is now possible to attach images (including gifs) and share various videos, which are embedded in the same way as comments.
But that is not all. Now on every page associated with a game there is an opportunity to open its general chat. In it you can ask some urgent question or quickly find a company for a cooperative. In-game correspondence is perhaps the most convenient way to establish live communication with fans of any games that interest you.
Have we invented our own Discord? No. Although a Discord server can perform all these functions (general chat, game chats, etc.), however, this will not be the most convenient solution. Just imagine a server on which there will be several thousand channels, and the only way to mute those that are not interesting to you is manually, by clicking on everything. It is much more convenient to go, for example, from the news directly to the game chat and discuss it, without you having to leave the news or switch to another application. This solves the major navigation issues that will be inevitable when using Discord, and makes it quicker to access discussions or answer questions.
Well, from any page that is not tied to a specific game, you can get into a global general chat where you can discuss pressing issues and recent events. All functionality available in private messages is also available in chats. If you wish, you can scroll through the chats and see everything that happened during your absence – the history is saved and available to all users.
You shouldn’t think that group chats will become a zone of freedom from the rules of both banal decency and those that are customarily observed on the site. Moderators will monitor what is happening, delete everything that violates the rules and punish the authors of incorrect, rude and openly mocking messages.
We understand that chats are missing some little things. But we couldn’t wait to introduce a new convenient way to communicate. The work continues, which means it will only get better!
