Psoriatic arthritis is a complicated, multifaceted disease that can be effectively treated with new therapies and therapeutic approaches. Dermatologists usually use topical treatments, ultraviolet therapy, and methotrexate for psoriasis, but they may not be ready to use advanced therapies such as biologics and targeted synthetic disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs, according to Philip J. Mease, MD. Currently, there are several treatment options for psoriatic arthritis, including TNF inhibitors, interleukin inhibitors, and JAK inhibitors, among others. Combination therapy may offer additional benefits to patients, especially those who experience only partial or no response to their initial therapy. A number of novel therapies, such as bimekizumab, are being developed for psoriatic arthritis treatment.
