New The Walking Dead game is already about to end

Relatively surprisingly, the developers of The Walking Dead: Betrayal, Ocean Interactive and publisher Skybound Games, decided to halt development of their game, which launched just three months ago. The asymmetrical multiplayer experience will no longer developed further and completely removed from the Steam store on December 15, 2023.

Why is the game being discontinued?

The decision to end the game early comes as a bitter blow to many players and the game’s developers. The Walking Dead: Betrayal been able to in the last few months not enough players win over. The Last month’s peak of 21 players was a clear indication of dwindling interest.

The Gameplay of TWD: Betrayal requires five to eight players to work together to expose a traitor within their ranks. The traitor, in turn, tries to carry out his sabotage plans unnoticed – so the gameplay is very reminiscent of the indie hit Among Us. Zombies in the game added additional challenges and were intended to create a more exciting atmosphere.

According to the developers, the decision to discontinue the game was made because the number of players was no longer sufficient to keep the game alive. Currently the number of players has even fallen into the single digits. The bitter pill for fans will be swallowed completely on December 11, 2023, when development of the game will finally cease.

Players are entitled to a refund of the purchase price

However, there is also good news for disappointed players: Depending on where the game was purchased, the purchase price may be refunded. Details on this will be available in the coming days Steam or the game’s official Discord server. At least the players don’t have to pay their own way.
