A painting exhibition with an unusual theme “Untitled … unknown … simple …” was presented in the parish hall. The representations of Father Rajani Kumar Reddy Yeramareddy msfs, of the Order of St. Francis de Sales, interested 30 guests. Father Reddy comes from India and is currently doing his doctorate in political theology at the Catholic Faculty of the University of Wrzburg. In 2015 he came to Germany and learned our language. He has been working as a collaborating priest in Zellingen since 2017.
The head of the art department in the Diocese of Wrzburg Jrgen Emmert praised Father Reddy, who not only masters the word, but also the brush. Lots of priests are artistic, he said. Pictures express feelings that create a closeness to the artist. This is a form of communication that stimulates. Pictures don’t dictate what to think. There are some who radiate brightness and some who cause sadness.
Only started painting during Corona
Father Reddy said that he started painting during the Corona period. His first work was a picture for his 60th birthday. Then he tried Indian Warli painting, a tribal art that he did well. On the Holy and Easter days he painted pictures for the announcement, which were shown digitally. At that time the first inquiries came as to whether the pictures were for sale. He made Christmas pictures for all volunteer workers in the parish. He paints with oil and acrylic on canvas and wood. Zellinger impressions of the Main Bridge, the Benediktushhe, the Marienkapelle and much more made him happy, as well as drawing the Wrzburg Fortress. Cathedral Capitular Albin Krmer suggested presenting these colorful pictures in an exhibition. The team of pastoral consultants with Claudia Jung actively supported this project, decorated the room and donated cakes.
Donations and the proceeds from the sale of paintings will go to India for the construction of a planned water system in the parish of Shabad, which the friars of Father Reddy are running. He would also like to accept and donate orders for more pictures so that the project can be implemented.
