New Rhythmic Brain Activation Course for Parkinson’s and MS Patients in Alkmaar

ALKMAAR – After the success of the previous course ‘Put your Brain in Motion’, a new series will start on Monday, January 8. Participants meet weekly on Mondays from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the De Daalder community center on Johanna Naberstraat in Alkmaar for an hour full of rhythm and music. Movement, speech and cognition are stimulated through cheerful and structured exercises. The simultaneous activation of multiple brain areas makes this approach particularly effective for improving the condition of the brain. The course is aimed at Parkinson’s and MS patients, but people with other forms of acquired brain damage can also benefit from the method. Registration is possible via www.sport-z.org/breininbeweging.

The Ronnie Gardiner Method (RGM) is a multi-sensory exercise method that simultaneously stimulates several areas of the brain, including vision, hearing, motor skills, speech and memory. Sport-Z previously organized a beginners course for Parkinson’s patients, which was successfully completed in August at the Daalder community center in Alkmaar. “After this pilot, we decided to start another beginners course. The evaluation points have now been implemented and we have developed a really great program. The participants are very enthusiastic and we see weekly progress in their skills. Of course, sometimes it also takes a lot of hard work. , but the results make up for a lot,” says Heleen van Cronenberg of Sport-Z.

By hearing the music, seeing the symbols, pronouncing the lyrics and executing the movements, multiple disciplines in the brain are engaged. This affects motor skills, coordination, body balance, thinking speed and speech. Participants especially have a lot of fun together and find recognition among the other participants in the group. More information about the project can be found at www.sport-z.org/breininbeweging.
