New Regulations for Cairo University’s Faculty of Engineering: Graduating in 4 Years

Dr. Muhammad Othman Elkhosht, President Cairo UniversityThe issuance of the ministerial decree with the new regulations for the Faculty of Engineering, which enables students to graduate after only 4 academic years, thus becoming Cairo Engineering, the first government engineering college that allows students to graduate in 4 years through its modern specialized programs, within the framework of the university’s keenness to bridge the knowledge gap. Compatibility with international educational systems and keeping pace with the rapid and successive development in university education.

The President of Cairo University stated that the new regulations for the Faculty of Engineering are scheduled to start with the beginning of the new academic year 2023/2024, and include many advantages, the most important of which is the possibility of graduating after completing the graduation requirements without being bound by a specific number of years of study, and allowing the student to study abroad. Whether a full academic year according to specific conditions or longer than an academic year in the event of bilateral agreements with international universities, in addition to allowing a full semester to work in industry according to specific conditions.

Dr. Muhammad Al-Khasht confirmed that the university has the precedence in keeping pace with global developments in engineering education, and offers a package of distinguished new programs in various fields and disciplines to provide high-quality education in non-stereotypical disciplines and a modern academic system to target a distinguished graduate who can keep pace with the global, regional and local labor market. Pointing out that the petroleum engineering program has progressed among the top 50 majors in the world, as it ranks 40th in the world, and is the best-performing and highest-ranking major in all Egyptian specializations.

For his part, Dr. Hossam Abdel-Fattah, Dean of the College of Engineering, said that the new academic regulations for the college will be implemented through studying the full credit hour system, which ranges from 154 to 159 credit hours required for graduation according to the study program, and allows the student to choose to enroll in one of the general or specialized programs. According to specific conditions, it also allows the registration of a “minor” sub-program for the first time at the level of engineering colleges in public universities, indicating that the new regulation includes many programmes, namely 13 general programmes, 15 specialized programs and 12 sub-programs, and requires the student to pass Successful summer internship for graduation.
