‘New noise standards threaten to halt housing construction’

New noise standards threaten to halt the construction of homes. Organizations like Bouwend Nederland, Vereniging Eigen Huis, Woonbond and the Dutch Association of Estate Agents warn against this. They have sent a fire letter about this to the cabinet. In it they call on politicians to act quickly.

From 2022, the noise load will be calculated in a different way. According to the organizations, this means that, for example, houses in large areas around airports – including Schiphol – will receive the stamp ‘bad living climate’ or ‘very bad living climate’.

According to the signatories, the new rules lead to ambiguity and uncertainty. “That postpones or postpones lurking for the construction of hundreds of thousands of homes,” the letter said. The Cabinet wants about 845,000 homes to be added by 2030.

Delay undesirable

The letter also states that the sector is already faced with a lot of uncertainty due to the recent nitrogen, pfas and corona crises. “A new delay is very undesirable.”

According to the alliance, sustainable neighborhoods must be built on a large scale in the coming years that are easily accessible with lots of greenery and nature. Half of all new homes for low and middle incomes must also become available. The new rules now threaten to throw a spanner in the works.
