The chiefs around star quarterback Patrick Mahomes start at home at Arrowhead Stadium against the Texans, whom they had got out of the way on the way to the Super Bowl triumph in the divisional play-off despite being 0:24 behind.

The eye-catcher in Week 1 is likely to be the duel between NFC South rivals New Orleans Saints and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, in which Drew Brees and Tom Brady, two of the best quarterbacks in NFL history, will face each other on September 13. For the New England Patriots (with the Stuttgart fullback Jakob Johnson) the time without Brady begins with a home game against the Miami Dolphins.

NFC champion San Francisco 49ers starts the new attempt towards the Super Bowl against the Arizona Cardinals. The duel between rookie quarterbacks Joe Burrow (chosen first in the draft) and Justin Herbert (6th) could come about when the Cincinnati Bengals and Los Angeles Chargers clash. The Las Vegas Raiders, who recently signed the Nuremberg-born kicker Dominik Eberle, will start away with the Carolina Panthers before the first home game after the move against New Orleans is due in Week 2 on Monday evening.

Despite the coronavirus pandemic, the NFL plans its season with a regular start on September 10 and a regular season with the Super Bowl on February 7, 2021 in Tampa. To be on the safe side, buffers were built in to be able to react at any time. Commissioner Roger Goodell stressed that in these uncertain times they are prepared to make changes if necessary.
