New meteor over Norway – VG

A new meteor has been observed over parts of Norway. – Especially that there will be two on the rap, says expert.

Steinar Midtskogen in the Norwegian meteor network confirms to VG that they have footage of a meteor from both Trondheim, Larvik and Gaustatoppen.

VG has received messages from people who believe that they have seen the meteor around 07.27 on Friday morning.

– Wow, what an experience, says Elin Torp Jonsson.

She saw the meteor at Langhus on its way to Oslo.

– I saw a large fireball with a long luminous tail that apparently went straight across the highway and disappeared over the hill towards Siggerud / Enebakk. Was gone for a moment, but for a fantastic start to the day, she says.

The country in Sweden

A meteor is a phenomenon that occurs when a body from space enters the atmosphere. It turns out to be a glowing streak of gas in the sky.

The Norwegian meteor network estimates that it has landed in Sweden. Steinar Midtskogen adds that the meteor most likely burned up.

– It has penetrated far into the atmosphere and it was very fast – 26km per second. It usually indicates that everything is burned up, he says.

Not related to it from Thursday

Thursday night, a meteor crossed southern Norway, before that burned up over the sea in the west. Midtskog says that there is no connection between the two meteors.

– But it is special that there are two on the rap. There is usually a month between them, so it’s fun with two in a day, he says.

This summer was another meteor observed in many places in the country. This must have hit the ground – something about triggered a meteorite hunt among the curious in an area in Finnemarka by the Tyrifjord, where it was believed that the meteorite must have landed.
