New measures to bring corona sleepers to order

The call is to hold private parties in the catering industry, but there must be good administration

ZWOLLE – Prime Minister Mark Rutte and Minister Hugo de Jonge have announced new measures to bring the corona sleepers to order. Especially in the private sphere things go wrong and the number of infections is increasing.

The call is to hold private parties in the catering industry, but there must be good administration.

The big fear is that things can go completely wrong in the autumn when the weather gets worse and people start tangling together again. The cabinet wants to prevent the revival of the corona virus from continuing. Then the consequences are incalculable. That is why the two men came up with new measures. Although the government, and also the specialists, is conservative to intervene in people’s private lives, something had to happen. The intervention is done fairly cautiously because the government does not want to ‘rule’ behind the front door. Restrictions to combat the coronavirus are necessary, especially in places where the virus spreads.

Measures

That is why Mark Rutte and Hugo de Jonge came up with measures that intervene considerably. No more than six people indoors or at a garden party and then five feet apart. The catering industry is also taking action, because it appears that the virus is also taking hold there. Everything is aimed at conducting a contact investigation as soon as possible in case of contamination. Since many people behave less exemplary, the number of contacts someone has rises considerably. This concerns contacts within a meter and a half and longer than 15 minutes. It is sometimes impossible for the GGD to conduct a contact investigation.

Stay home

The credo still applies: stay at home. And that is precisely what many people do not (anymore) do. Also because a number of people do not see the point of it, the corona sleepers. In addition, there are people who do not see the usefulness of all corona measures or who do not care about it. It does mean that the people do not adhere to the measures

Lockdown

If the corona virus revives in the autumn, it would be catastrophic for the economy, but also for healthcare. Calculations show that unemployment could then rise to over ten percent, failing companies and enormous damage to the economy. The Central Planning Bureau has calculated that the economy could revive in the autumn, but then the virus must remain under control. There is also great fear that there will be a large influx of corona patients in hospitals. That the Intensive Careers are getting full again and care is again overloaded. The Netherlands was only a few IC patients away from triage at the front door of the IC last summer. In addition, ‘American situations’ must be avoided at all times, where corpses even had to be stored in refrigerated trucks.

Usefulness and necessity

According to the cabinet, it is no longer a matter of whether people see the usefulness and necessity of the corona measures or not, but that people adhere to the rules that exist to contain the corona virus. People should assume that the rules are in place to contain the virus. Mark Rutte and Hugo de Jonge still insist on people’s own responsibility. But quite a few don’t care about their own responsibility and go their own way, which means that the virus is ‘not done with us yet’.

Summer vacation

The revival of the corona virus with about 4000 infections per week is during a period when many people are on vacation. In addition, people come back from holiday countries who may have become infected with the corona virus. Only when everyone has returned from vacation in two weeks can the bill for the summer be slowly settled. But no one has a crystal ball and can see what will happen this fall. There is a great danger that the virus will revive even more. And that must be avoided because the consequences can then be disastrous.
