The upper house of the Russian parliament, the Federation Council, on Wednesday approved a law that will prevent supporters and members of organizations recognized as extremist from running in the elections, reports Reuters. Experts believe that this law is primarily intended to prevent the election of elected office by all those who have worked closely with the Kremlin’s main opposition, Alexei Navalny. The law has yet to be signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin, but no one in Russia doubts that he will do so.
