New Kuipers press conference on corona-stressed hospitals | Inland

Hospitals treated 2,147 corona patients on Sunday. 1,657 of them are in a nursing ward, the highest number since April 10. In addition, 490 corona patients are in intensive care. Around 150 beds in intensive care units are still available across the country.

Hospitals want to increase their capacity in the near future. To give them air, the first two patients from an intensive care unit in Almere were transferred to Münster, Germany. In the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, which borders the Netherlands, eighty beds in intensive care units are available for Dutch patients.

Gommers

IC leader Diederik Gommers is happy with the agreements made on Friday between the cabinet and various players in the healthcare sector. As a result, the National Coordination Center for Patient Distribution (LCPS) has more authority in the distribution of corona patients across hospitals. “There must be cooperation!”, Gommers tells the AD. “That is not without obligation.”

“I do think that this sends out a positive signal. Many hospital administrators operate autonomously and hospitals considered maintaining regular care even more important than Covid care ”, Gommers said in the newspaper. And that had to change. “All parties involved in the patient flow have a duty to properly arrange Covid care.”

“There were many local differences. For example, we had many problems in The Hague on Friday,” says the IC doctor. The situation was also dire in his own Erasmus MC in Rotterdam. “We had to take in two patients while we were already quite full.” That must now be prevented as best as it can be. “We are scaling across the country and trying to distribute Covid patients as much as possible,” says Gommers.

Under the new agreements, an estimate is made per week of how many corona patients a region can expect. That way hospitals know where they stand. According to Minister Tamara van Ark (Medical Care), those forecasts are not without obligation, she said on Friday.

Mayors

The mayors of the 25 security regions will discuss current affairs around corona on Monday evening. The number of infections and hospital admissions and the measures to curb the corona virus are on the agenda of this Security Council. The mayors come together in Utrecht.

Since the outbreak of the virus they have been meeting about the corona measures and its effects. They advise the cabinet on the policy to be pursued. Minister Ferd Grapperhaus (Security) is usually present. It is still unclear whether he will also join this time, because he has several appointments in his agenda.
