A few weeks ago, we announced that the 2021 Kia Stinger would benefit from some aesthetic changes. This week, we learn that changes will take place under the hood as a new engine will appear.
Thus, Kia is adding to its range a new 2.5-liter turbo 4-cylinder engine which is more powerful than the 2-liter 4-cylinder engine currently serving the model on the American market (we will recall that it was removed from ours).
The 2.5-liter block is touted as exclusive to the North American market, but whether it will be offered in Canada remains to be seen. Kia has not explicitly confirmed that it is ditching the smaller 4-cylinder in our neighbors to the south, but it’s no exaggeration to think that the less powerful engine will go away once the editions get the 2.5 mill. liters will show up.
The new engine will deliver 300 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque, which is a significant gain over the 255 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque of the smaller 2-liter. The new unit produces its maximum torque between 1,650 and 4,000 rpm. Kia does not report the acceleration data, but it is clear that there will be gains there.

As for the Stinger GT, its mechanical 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 will benefit from a new electronic exhaust valve system that will guarantee a more interesting sound, we promise. The benefit gain from this change is modest at 3 horsepower, bringing the total to 368 (torque remains unchanged at 367 lb-ft).
The transmission remains the same, an eight-speed automatic. Rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive will also be available.
In addition to the powertrain news, Kia provided information on the new driver assistance systems. The company has added its motorway driving assistance device. Then, the blind spot monitor that made its debut on the Telluride is made available for 2021.
