Food and Drug Administration has approved a new drug against peanut allergy. This allergy is very common among young people. With the new medicine, a solution must be found for the many reactions in minors.

The new drug, Palforzia, is intended to help children between 4 and 17 years of age against allergic reactions with peanuts. During the treatment, the young people are given peanut proteins for six months in increasingly larger sizes. This should ensure that they are more resistant to peanuts.

Test

In the tests, two out of three children responded well to treatment. In one in ten cases, a young person had to stop treatment because it had effects on the child. The minor reacted badly when administering the proteins. So it remains risky, there is still a chance of anaphylaxis, a serious allergic reaction that can be fatal.

The medicine is currently only available in America. During the course of the year it will be considered whether it can also be introduced in Europe. Palforzia is a powder that you must mix with food, for example with apple sauce or yogurt.
