• Cybertruck to get new plaid drive
• Currently very unlikely to be approved in Europe
In the United States, Tesla’s new cyber truck already has hundreds of thousands of pre-orders. At the launch, Tesla’s boss planned Elon Musk the release date at the end of 2021. Can that be kept? – Questionable. Because there is still no official production site for the cyber truck.
And yet, as usual via Twitter, Elon Musk has now given another detail. Accordingly, the Tesla truck should be able to swim for at least a short time.
Tesla’s cyber truck as an amphibious vehicle?
“The Cybertruck is equipped with a high-strength outer shell that combines maximum durability and robustness with optimal occupant protection,” says Tesla on the official website. The new vehicle will not only be used on the road, but will also be able to make its way through difficult and rough terrain.
Recently, the Tesla boss has repeatedly published new information about the cyber truck. Like the Model S, it should get the fast plaid drive with three motors. According to the latest statement, the Cybertruck is now not only protected from water, but is actually able to swim for a short time, the confirmed Musk at the request of a Twitter user:
Have you thought about CT’s wading depth? I hunt and fish and sometimes need to cross streams. Can I do it without damaging the truck?

This is possible because electric cars have no exhaust and no air intake into which water could penetrate. The battery, motor and electronics are also sealed against the ingress of water. The wheels serve as the drive.
No approval for the cyber truck in Europe?
When and whether the electric pick-up truck will come to Europe is still unclear. However, it is clear that the basic concept of the cyber truck does not correspond to the “common European security philosophy”, explained TÜV expert Stefan Teller recently. According to him, a lot of changes would have to be made to the vehicle.
In the United States, automakers have the option of self-certifying that their vehicles are roadworthy. In Germany, manufacturers must adhere to the type approval process. “For vehicles, 50 to 60 regulations have to be complied with”, the TÜV expert continues.
The expert is currently not giving the Tesla Cybertruck a chance for approval in Europe. In the current design, “it will not be possible to sell it in this country as a mass-production vehicle on the basis of a type approval,” Teller says.
