New decisions started in public transport in Istanbul

Due to the coronavirus epidemic, the Istanbul Governorship took new measures to protect social distance in public transport. Administrative fines will be imposed on those who violate the measures specified within the scope of the measures taken in accordance with Article 282 of the General Sanitary Law No. 1593 starting from 05:00.

At Söğütlüçeşme Metrobus Station and Bus stops in Kadıköy, it was observed that drivers and citizens were careful to wear masks, while those without masks were warned that they could not get on public transport without wearing masks. In addition, it was observed that some metrobus drivers were dressed in protective overalls alongside the mask.

THE MASKED DRIVERS AND PASSENGERS WILL BE APPLIED FOR A SEPARATE PUNISHMENT

According to the written statement made by the Governorship of Istanbul, Metro, Metrobus, Marmaray, Tramway, IETT, Private Public Buses and Istanbul Bus Inc. in public transportation vehicles operating in land, sea and rail systems within the scope of measures. etc. It has been announced that all drivers and passengers are required to use masks, those who do not use masks will not be taken to public transport, and drivers and passengers who are found to be without masks will be punished separately.

THE NUMBER OF PASSENGERS ON THE FOOT WILL NOT EXCEED HALF OF THE SEATING PASSENGERS

In the statement, due to the fact that the social distance cannot be maintained in case of “50% of the passenger carrying capacity”, public transportation vehicles will not be able to hold more than 50 percent of the seated passengers, the number of passengers standing will be limited to not exceed half of the seated passengers. It was stated that the passengers would be allowed to travel in the seats by the window, leaving the side empty. It was also noted that the necessary markings will be made at the stops and inside the vehicles in order to make it easier for passengers traveling or waiting at the station to comply with the social distance. On the other hand, it was announced that it is compulsory to have liquid hand sanitizer in all public transportation vehicles and stops.

Administrative fines will be imposed on those who violate the specified measures in accordance with Article 282 of the General Sanitary Law No. 1593.

Ufuk Şimşirci, another citizen who was taken to the metrobus after wearing his mask, said, “They do not want to buy, they do not give a mask. Unfortunately I will wear the old one to get on the metrobus.”
