New Dean DC’s wants better appreciation for colleagues – Suriname Herald

District Commissioner (DC) Shafiek Goelaman of Wanica Southeast, who has been appointed as the new Dean, wants the duties of his colleagues to be better appreciated. According to him, the tasks are comprehensive and involve numerous risks.

The remuneration of a DC is equivalent to that of a vice-director at a ministry. He would like to see the salary of a DC brought to that of a director.

Minister Gracia Emanuël of Regional Development and Sports (ROS) appointed Goelaman as the new dean on Wednesday. He succeeds Margaretha Malontie, who has been dean since 2017 and was also the mayor of the administrative resort Paamaka in Sipaliwini.

Goelaman, who already has seventeen years of managerial experience, is looking forward to supporting the DC’s corps. In his special positions he says he will make a case for a number of things. For example, he wants to have special meetings with the DCs who are not from the administrative service, to introduce them to the work. He will do this together with the deputy director of decentralization.

He will also work on the further decentralization of the districts. One of the points that he certainly wants to discuss with the ROS minister is the permit policy of the various districts. Goelaman also wants to contribute to an unambiguous uniform for the administrative service. He notes that there are now different uniforms. According to him, there must be uniformity in this.
