New coronavirus: a real-time map to follow the evolution of the epidemic

As the mysterious coronavirus from China appears to be spreading more and more to the rest of the world, a map tracks the progress of the epidemic in real time.

The map, available here, was developed by researchers at the Johns Hopkins University in the United States. It lists all confirmed cases around the world, as well as those suspected. It is updated in real time.

“We think it is important that the public understand the situation as it unfolds,” Lauren Gardner, who heads the team responsible for the card, told American television.

First cases in France

As we can see, the coronavirus is, for the moment, mainly concentrated in China, particularly in the region of Wuhan where it appeared.

Several other cases are also listed in neighboring countries. The United States and Australia are also affected, as are Germany, Spain and France, which, after having confirmed six proven cases, announced five others detected in Contamines-Montjoie, in Haute-Savoie.

As of February 9, the toll of the viral pneumonia epidemic was at least 722 dead and more than 34,500 people infected, especially in China.
