New corona measures in Amsterdam, details announced Tuesday | NOW

Amsterdam will take new measures to reduce the number of corona infections in the city. That said Minister Hugo de Jonge (Public Health) on Monday evening after the Security Council. What the new measures entail will be announced on Tuesday.

For the time being, Amsterdam is the only place for which new local measures will be announced on Tuesday, but according to De Jonge it is “certainly possible” that other regions will also come up with measures later.

“What you see is that the infection rate is rising in a number of regions. It is necessary to tighten the reins a little more tightly there, because together we have to make sure that we get the virus under it”, De Jonge said about the new measures in the capital.

Whether new national measures will be announced on Tuesday evening, the minister did not want to say. The cabinet will take a decision on this on Tuesday morning and Prime Minister Mark Rutte and De Jonge will give a press conference at 7 p.m.

Number of infections ’cause for concern’

Prior to the consultation with the 25 security regions, De Jonge said that the increasing number of infections is “cause for concern”. “We will have to take a number of extra steps to ensure that we get the virus under it.”

“If things go so far that we no longer get there with the current measures, it is possible that we will end up in a situation of partial lockdown, and that is where you have to stay away from”, says De Jonge.
