The city could start construction work on the Baumgarten primary school
After complaints delayed the start of construction in August, the high school center can be built in an empty office building on the highway.
The city of Bern can now start construction work on the new primary school in Baumgarten. The cantonal building authority has lifted the suspensive effect on pending appeals against the building permit.
This was announced on Monday by the city of Bern. With the immediate start of the works, everything will be done so that the high school center can be put into operation after the autumn holidays of 2023. Furthermore, it remains a concern to reach an agreement with the complainants that satisfies all parties.
Those entitled to vote in the city of Bern had it May 2022 approved the necessary loans. The high school center will be built in an empty office building between the Baumgarten housing estate and the highway. In this way, the city wants to make available the school spaces it urgently needs east of Bern.
Suitability of the place in question
The government governor’s office issued the building permit in July. However, several complaints were received. The one originally scheduled for August 2022 The start of the works had to be postponed. So far, only works have been carried out for which no building permit is required. These are, for example, on-site installations and scaffolding.
Opponents of the planning question had questioned the town planning compliance and suitability of the site for a school. There are not enough rest areas and children are exposed to noise, fine dust and other dangers from the nearby motorway.
