“New Car Smell Linked to Cancer: Shocking Study Reveals Car Chemicals Potentially Toxic to Health”

STRATEGI.ID – Recently, a surprising study has found that the smell of a new car can be one of the triggers for cancer.

This research shows that the smell of a new car can increase a person’s risk of developing cancer.

The Beijing Institute of Technology, China, has found that the chemical that creates the ‘new car smell’ has carcinogenic properties that are potentially toxic to consumers’ health.

This discovery has been published by a team of Chinese scientists in the journal Cell Reports Physical Science.

They carried out an analysis of the levels of chemicals that evaporate at room temperature in new cars. These chemicals are known as volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

These VOC compounds can be released by leather, plastic, vinyl, as well as the adhesives, sealants, and glass cleaners used in new car interiors.

When the car is parked in the sun for a long time, there is an increased risk of chemical release due to the heating of the interior of the car.

While the study doesn’t directly imply that the smell of a new car is a cancer trigger, the research team did reveal that the compounds could continue to evaporate after the 12-day testing period and carry potential long-term risks.

Prior to this, there was an opinion that the smell of a new car was associated with illness.

In 2016, CSIRO Australia researchers found high levels of toxic emissions in new cars at least six months after they left the showroom.

Released levels of VOCs have also been shown to cause drowsiness and lethargy in people who spend only 10 minutes in a new car.

Certain toxins have previously been linked to cancer and fetal abnormalities.
