Bowers starts with Meghan Markle. He tells how the American in 2017 – she then starred in the TV series ‘Suits’ – was immensely proud of the fact that the renowned monthly magazine Vanity Fair asked her for an interview. She was “in ecstasy” that after years of working as an actress, she finally got attention. But that ecstasy didn’t last long. When she saw the cover, she shot herself three times.

Rather than talking about her career as an actress, the cover headlined “Wild About Harry,” “Wild About Harry.” Harry, with whom she hadn’t been dating for long, had explicitly asked her not to reveal anything about their relationship. But when the interviewer asked a question about it – in his own words without expecting her to answer – Meghan confirmed they were a couple. “We are in love,” she said. In Buckingham Palace they were less wild about it. Meghan called her PR team in a panic. “Hysterically she described the anger of the royal family,” Bowers writes.

Funeral
Also to be read in that publication: the Queen’s reaction to the arrival of Harry and Meghan to the funeral of her husband Prince Philip. Or better, Meghan’s absence on it. “Thank God Meghan isn’t coming,” Queen Elisabeth is said to have said on the morning of the worship service. Not entirely in public, but loud enough for her employees to hear.

The funeral marked the first time Harry saw his family again after the controversial interview with Oprah Winfrey. He flew in from the US, but Meghan was seven months pregnant at the time. Doctors didn’t like the idea of her taking such a long flight herself. Reportedly, the queen did not speak from a personal conflict with Meghan. She was especially happy that the day of mourning would not be overshadowed by all the fuss and drama of the couple the months before.

Lawsuit
Actor Tom Bowers is not ready for his test piece. The investigative journalist, who specializes in unauthorized biographies, has previously written stories about Tony Blair, Richard Branson, Prince Charles, Bernie Ecllestone and Boris Johnson. The pre-publications of this book were in The Times and The Sun, among others, and Bowers promises that there will be more “explosive” revelations. He also says he expects a lawsuit (not his first).
