NY – The authorities of NY They reported on Saturday the arrest of a teenager allegedly linked to the murder at the end of last year of a university student and is the second minor arrested in relation to that case.
The boy was identified as Rashaun Weaver, 14, during a conference this Saturday by Manhattan prosecutor Cyrus Vance and police, according to local media.
Weaver was charged with robbery and murder for being the one who allegedly stabbed Tessa Major on December 11 and according to the prosecutor he will be tried as an adult.
According to Vance, they have “substantial” DNA evidence that links the child to the murder of the 18-year-old student.
Majors was stabbed in a failed robbery attempt while walking through Morningside Park, near Barnard College where she studied, and also from Columbia University, according to authorities.
The young woman had recently moved to New York to attend college and on weekends she sang with the rock band Patient 0, who had released her first album last fall and offered her first concert in New York in October.
Shortly after his murder, 13-year-old Zyairr Davis was arrested, who police said would have been implicated in the attack, who was charged with murder, theft and criminal possession of a weapon.
The young man would also have confessed that he and his friends went to the park with the idea of carrying out “assaults”.
“What we can say is that we are sure that we have the detained person who stabbed her,” New York police chief Dermot Shea said in a conference with prosecutor Vance.
“And that person will face justice in court.”
The case goes to a grand jury that will evaluate the evidence, which includes the knife that authorities said was used in the murder, to determine the charges against the two children.
After being attacked in the park, Majors managed to climb a flight of stairs and go outside where a university security guard found her and was taken to a hospital in the area where she died due to injuries.
The death of the young woman and the fact that teenagers are allegedly responsible caused consternation in the city.
