Netflix puts production of new action film with Will Smith on pause

The production of the new action film ‘Fast and loose’, starring Will Smith, has been put on the back burner by Netflix. That reports ‘The Hollywood Reporter’ on Saturday. The decision was allegedly made after the Oscar ceremony in which Smith took the stage and punched comedian Chris Rock after he joked about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith.

However, the departure of director David Leitch also plays an important role. He stopped the project a week before the Oscars because he is going to direct the Universal film Fall Guy with Ryan Gosling. Production on that film was set to begin in August.

Smith’s incident during the Oscar ceremony, however, would have made Netflix decide to put the search for a new director on the back burner. It is still unclear whether the streaming service will continue with the production of the film, and if so whether a new lead actor is also being sought in addition to a new director.

‘Fast and loose’ is about a criminal who loses his memory after an attack. After he wakes up, he has to put the puzzle pieces from his past back in place. He then learns that he used to lead two different lives: that of a wealthy thug and an undercover CIA agent.
