Netflix has given the green light for a as yet untitled series about Queen Charlotte, played by actress Golda Rosheuvel. It would be a limited series, so there will only be one season. “Many viewers already knew the story of Queen Charlotte before ‘Bridgerton’ introduced her to the world,” the makers say. “We are very happy that in this way we can deepen her story, and also expand the ‘Bridgerton’ universe with the same quality that viewers are accustomed to of us.”

Rosheuvel’s choice as Charlotte was somewhat controversial, given that the real Queen Charlotte was not a black woman. “But we want to give black actors and actresses more opportunities,” they explain. “That’s why ‘Bridgerton’ has not been cast historically correctly. In our opinion that is not necessary, given that we are making a fiction series anyway. ”
