Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Netflix started cutting off access to users sharing Netflix accounts in Indonesia. Indonesian citizens who use someone else’s Netflix account from a different house must create their own account.
Bad news for loyal Netflix viewers who have been sharing accounts or jointly paying for Netflix subscription fees.
The Netflix policy that has eradicated the habit of sharing accounts has begun to be implemented in Indonesia. Indonesian citizens who have used other people’s Netflix accounts from different homes in the last few days can no longer watch series and movies on the streaming service from the United States.
Netflix explains that the Netflix sharing system is intended for people who live together in one house. People who don’t live in the same household have to create their own accounts to watch Netflix.
RI citizens using other accounts will find a message from Netflix that says, “Your TV is not part of Home with a Netflix Account. Create an account to enjoy your own Netflix today.”
Netflix does provide several subscription options in Indonesia. The most expensive subscription fee is Premium for IDR 186,000 per month which can be used simultaneously on 6 devices including applications, web and TV.
In addition to a premium account, Netflix offers a standard account for IDR 120,000 per month that can be used simultaneously on two devices, a basic account that can only be used on one device for IDR 65,000 and a mobile account that can only be used on mobile applications for IDR 54,000.
The policy of stopping the habit of sharing accounts is Netflix’s effort to boost the number of subscribers whose growth has begun to stagnate around the world. However, unlike in some other countries, Netflix has not announced any special fees for users who wish to share accounts with viewers in multiple homes.
