Within the framework of the “White Night 2023” program of the contemporary art forum, a contemporary organization in the dance industry, IevaKrish & Tuvumi, will offer the audience the opportunity to experience different versions of the project “Near Emptiness”. The audiovisually impressive work invites the viewer to explore the deep themes of transformation, rebirth and the limitless potential of emptiness. “Near Emptiness” is not just a dance installation or performance – it is an invitation to reflect, renew and create anew.

“Near Void” explores the fascinating concept of the end of the world on different scales. Inspired by ancient Mesopotanian and Judeo-Christian myths, as well as personal life milestones, the work skillfully weaves together symbolic death and rebirth through captivating movement and visually impressive scenography. The central theme of the event is the mysterious feeling of emptiness that comes after the end of something significant. Like a canvas stretching into an unexplored future, this void holds enormous potential for new beginnings. Whether it’s the anticipation of a brighter future, the desire to ‘start over on Mars’ or the promise of happiness, “Near Void” explores the universal human longing for something that hasn’t happened yet.

This extraordinary work will take place in the recently renovated premises of the Riga Circus, which, on the one hand pulsating with historical significance and on the other hand still awaiting its completion and further restoration, is in a uniquely liminal state. Symbolizing and celebrating the unmanifested potential of this unique place, the space pushes the boundaries of circus, dance and theatre, inviting you on a journey of exploration. The format of “Near Void” is also deliberately designed to immerse the viewer in a continuous flow of emotions and thoughts. The art event easily defies traditional beginnings and endings, drawing the viewer into a cyclical experience that unfolds slightly before the announced performance time and gradually transforms, perceiving the parts of the performance and the installation as one whole.

Dance artists Krišjānis Sants, Ieva Gaurilčikaite-Sants, Emilija Berga, Arturs Muskars and, from Sweden, Erik Eriksson (Erik Eriksson), as well as singer Jolanta Strikaite-Lapiņa, composer and sound artist Jēkabs Nīmanis and lighting artist Jūlija Bondarenko.
