Nearly 5000 positive corona tests, highest number in two months Inland

The National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) received almost 28,000 reports of positive tests in the past week. That equates to an average of 3983 new cases per day. That is also the highest level since April. The average is rising for the 25th day in a row. It has tripled in the last two weeks.

Amsterdam has the most positive tests. In the capital, the corona virus has been diagnosed in 290 inhabitants. Rotterdam registered 156 new cases, The Hague 138 and Utrecht 134.

The increase is due to some new versions of the omicon variant of the coronavirus circulating. They know how to circumvent the defenses every now and then. In principle, people do not get sicker due to the new sub-variants, but if more people contract the corona virus, more people can end up in a hospital.
