Nearly 14,000 new infections are added to our country every day. This is evident from the preliminary data on the online dashboard of the health institute Sciensano on Wednesday morning. Since the outbreak of the coronavirus, more than 11,000 people have died of covid-19 in our country.

Between 18 and 24 October, there were an average of 13,858 new infections daily, an increase of 40 percent from the seven days before. A total of 347,289 people in our country have been infected with the virus since the start of the pandemic.
During the period from October 18 to 24, an average of 59.1 people died of covid-19 every day. That is more than 26 more compared to the seven days before. Since the outbreak of the virus, 11,038 people have died of covid-19 in Belgium.
An average of 547 people are admitted to hospital every day, an increase of 85 percent. Currently, 5,554 (+6 percent) corona patients are in hospital. This brings us to the record of April 7, when 5,715 hospital beds in Belgium were occupied by corona patients.
Currently, 911 people with covid-19 are in the intensive care unit (+13 pc). There, the record number dates from April 8, when there were 1,285.
67,100 people are tested every day. The positivity ratio, the number of people who test positive in relation to the total number of tests, is now 22.5 percent. The last known r-value dates from October 26, when it was 1.45. That means that two covid patients together infect almost 3 people in total on average.
